This Day In Weather History

1996 - Widespread flooding was caused as a massive rainstorm in north central and northeast Illinois led to widespread flooding.  Aurora repored 16.91 inches of rain, which is a state record for the most rain in a single day.  There were other huge reports, including 13.60" at Joilet, Wheaton had 9.24", 8.09" in DeKalb and 7.82" at Elgin.
