This Day In Weather History1989 - Hail rolled through central and southern Illinois and actually caused 6 injuries. Carlinville say 2.5" hail that broke 55 windows in the Macoupin County Courthouse and caused $1 million in damage across the city. Tennis ball sized hail was reported in Litchfield. Vandalia saw baseball sized hail that caused $4 million in damage at the correctional facility. Even 19 bullet proof windows were cracked. Areas just south of Effingham also saw golf ball sized hail.
