At 12:22 PM on November 17th, 2013, a tornado touched down near Brownstown, IL and southwest of St. Elmo. The tornado moved northeast across Highway 40 and missed many towns, but did affect farmland. The tornado reached wind speeds of 120 mph, makeing it an EF-2 tornado. It was on the ground for 11.5 miles and reached a width of 200 yards. The tornado lifted 3.1 miles northwest of Altamont.
