Weather Vault: Severe Storm Event of July 8th, 2001

A downburst of wind caused considerable damage on the west side of Hoopeston. Three businesses were destroyed, 100 homes received minor to moderate damage, and the EMS building was destroyed. The sewer department suffered major damage and numerous trees and tree limbs were knocked down. There were several power outages since power poles and power lines were blown down in Hoopeston and areas to the southeast, east of Rossville. No injuries or deaths were reported. Damage was estimated around $11.2 million.
