CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- A Rantoul man was sentenced to 15-years in prison for murder.
Wednesday, Jarvis Garrett, 27, pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
January 18, he stabbed 21-year old Fate Young to death while Young's 2-year old daughter was in the residence at Love Apartments, off Maplewood and Harmon.
Authorities say the men were arguing over a drug debt Garrett owed Young. Garrett was identified and in custody within a day of the murder.
First degree murder charges, which carry a possible sentence of 20 - 60 years, were dropped. Garrett will get credit for 174 days served and could be released in seven years.
