1-on-1 with Villa Grove's Heath Wilson

VILLA GROVE (WCIA) -- WCIA 3's Craig Choate goes one-on-one with new Villa Grove-Heritage head football coach Heath Wilson.

HEATH WILSON:
"I'm from this area, Villa Grove is a small town, I'm used to small town being from Tolono. Just the atmosphere of a small town and being close to home, getting back in the area was a big draw for me to be able to coach at Villa Grove."

CRAIG:
"What do you bring to this program?"

WILSON:
"I bring leadership, I bring a great staff with me. I coached at St. Thomas More for years and Dan Hennessey, Chad Slack, got them out of retirement for one year and just a great coaching staff together and we can bring a lot to the program."

CRAIG:
"Without giving too much away, what's your philosophy, what do you want to see done here?"

WILSON:
"You got to be able to run the ball, so we're definitely going to look to run the ball. We'll air it out when we need to but we've got to establish a run game and play a quick defense, be a very fast defense."

CRAIG:
"So this is a program that's been to the playoffs ten of the last 13 years, what's it going to take and how much does it mean to keep that going?"

WILSON:
"It means everything to keep it going. That's a couple goals, you definitely want to compete for a conference title and get to the playoffs. When you're sitting around as a team on that Saturday night selection just wanting to hear your name called, definitely want to keep that going, keep that tradition going."

CRAIG:
"Been here this summer, how have workouts gone and what do you inherit in this team?"

WILSON:
"There's a lot of leadership on this team. We practice four days a week, we have close to 40 kids at every practice so the commitment level is there. We're learning a lot about the kids and the kids are learning a lot about us too as a coaching staff. So once we become more comfortable, it's going to be a fun team."
